Hi… the following text is the introduction I sent in my first newsletter.
Social media services have a problem
Social media is based on the idea that we share information of all kinds to our friends or people we follow. And we have an expectation that social media services will share all of that information to those lists of people that want to hear from us.
The problem is that they don’t.
Why don’t they?
These services don’t share everything partly for practical reasons and partly for manipulative reasons. The troubling part is that they choose what we see to optimize their advertising to us. And that very well could affect how you feel about your online “friends”.
Whatever the reason though, if someone wants to view the information we post online, then we shouldn’t have any service or timeline algorithm getting in the way of that.
Why did I get this email?
You are receiving this email because you and I have emailed each other in the past and your address is in my Contacts file. We are also likely connected through a social media service.
I am publishing this weekly email newsletter to eliminate the restrictions of social media and build stronger connections with people I know.
What’s in the newsletter?
Almost everything really. Blog posts, Images, Videos, Tweets, Reviews, Lessons-Learned from my experiences, How-To’s on things I’ve figured out. The topics will be all over the map… Food, Travel, Music, Film, Business, Productivity, Politics, Science, Books… lots of stuff.
Each newsletter will be a collection of recent articles, pictures, and videos I post on my personal Web site CharlesBartlett.net from the previous week.
I think you should unsubscribe, unless…
You should definitely unsubscribe from this email unless you have the time and/or interest to check out what I’m publishing. I will absolutely not be offended if you unsubscribe because I know how valuable time is and I hate emails cluttering my email InBox too.
What can I expect?
It’s my public online presence. So you can be sure there won’t be anything “out there” or not-safe-for-work. Although you can expect some forward-looking “progressive” thinking. Check out the article below and the Recent Articles section to get a general idea.
Publish content yourself. Build your brand instead of some social media machine.
Thanks,
Chuck
