Allan McCollum

McCollum’s parents worked in manufacturing plants. As he did after getting out of school. Through his time on the machining and assembly lines he came to recognize and appreciate the artistry in creating the same thing over and over again.

Art installation by Allan McCollum. Dozens of painted black canvases of similar but different shapes and sizes. All with similar but different frames.

McCollum rejected the view that for something to be Art it must be wholly unique and inspired. This work and others are on display at The Blanton Museum of Art.
